Privacy policy: Prepfield SAT
This policy covers the Digital SAT Prep – Prepfield mobile app (app ID app.prepfield.sat), called "the app" below. It is made by Prepfield ("we", "us"). You can reach us at [email protected].
SAT® is a trademark registered by the College Board, which is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, this product.
The short version: there are no accounts and no sign-in. Your study progress stays on your phone, and we have no server that stores it. The free version shows ads from Google. Pro purchases are handled by Apple or Google and checked by RevenueCat.
What stays on your device
The app saves these only on your device:
- Study progress, answers and scores
- Settings
- Essay drafts, if the app has an essay feature
We never receive this data, so we cannot see, restore or transfer it. To erase it, open Settings and tap "Reset all progress". Uninstalling the app erases it too. If you delete the app or change phones, your progress does not come with you.
Ads (free version)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. They are rewarded ads, which you choose to watch for extra questions, and interstitial ads, which appear between activities. Pro has no ads.
Google is an independent third party. When it serves an ad, it may collect:
- Device identifiers, including your advertising ID
- Your IP address and an approximate location worked out from it
- How you interact with ads
We do not receive this data and we do not combine it with your study data. Google's use of it is covered by Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
We set ad requests to the most careful settings available to us:
- Maximum ad content rating: PG
- Not child-directed
- Tagged "under the age of consent", so Google limits ad personalization
Your ad choices
Before any ad loads, the app runs Google's consent flow. In the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland, you see a consent form. On iPhone and iPad, you see Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. Where the law requires it, Settings shows an "Ad privacy choices" button so you can change your answer later.
You can also:
- Decline tracking in the iOS prompt, or turn it off in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking
- Reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's own settings (on Android, under Privacy or Ads)
- Buy Pro, which removes ads, so the app no longer requests them
Purchases
Pro is sold as a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription (which may include a free trial) and a one-time lifetime purchase. You buy through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles the payment. We never receive your card details.
To check that a purchase is real and to restore it, the app uses RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly generated app user ID and purchase and transaction information. This ID is not your name, email or Apple or Google account. "Restore purchases" is in Settings and on the upgrade screen.
Study reminders
Study reminders are optional. They are scheduled on your device by your phone's operating system. No push token is sent to any server. You can turn them off in the app or in your phone's settings.
Question updates
The app sometimes downloads an updated question file from a static file host. That request shows your IP address to the host in its standard server logs. Nothing about you or your progress is uploaded.
What we do not collect
- No account, name or email address
- No analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK
- No access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or precise location
Who gets data
- Google (AdMob): device and ad data, as described above, in the free version only.
- RevenueCat: anonymous app user ID and purchase information.
- Apple or Google (stores): your purchase and payment, under their own policies.
- The file host for question updates: your IP address in server logs.
We do not sell your data and we do not share your study data with anyone, because we do not have it.
Children
The app is for people preparing for an exam who are 13 or older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. This is how we meet the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you think a child under 13 has used the app, email us and we will help.
Your rights: EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR)
We do not hold personal data about you on our own servers. Almost all data stays on your device, so you use your rights by using the app: view it in the app and erase it with "Reset all progress" or by uninstalling.
For data handled by third parties, the company holding it is responsible for it. That is Google for ad data, RevenueCat for the anonymous purchase ID and Apple or Google for store purchases. Contact them under the policies linked above.
The legal bases we and these companies rely on are:
- Consent for ad personalization and device access for ads. You give or refuse it in the consent form and can change it with "Ad privacy choices".
- Contract for providing a purchase you made and restoring it.
- Legitimate interests for downloading question updates and keeping logs for security.
You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict and object to the use of your personal data, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your local data protection authority. If you cannot reach a third party, email us and we will point you the right way.
Google and RevenueCat may process data in countries outside yours, including the United States. They describe their safeguards in their own policies.
Your rights: California (CCPA / CPRA)
We do not sell personal information. Ad identifiers and ad interaction data that Google collects to show you ads can count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. To opt out:
- Decline tracking when the app asks, or use "Ad privacy choices" in Settings where it appears
- Turn off ad personalization or reset your advertising ID in your device settings
- Buy Pro, so no ads are requested
You may also ask what personal information we hold. We hold none about you on our own servers. We do not treat you differently for using these rights. Other US states give similar rights, and the same steps apply.
Keeping data
On-device data stays until you reset the app or uninstall it. Third parties keep their data under their own policies.
Changes to this policy
If what the app does with data changes, we will update this page and the effective date at the top. We will post material changes here before they take effect.
